David Landia
Lead Singer / Acoustic Guitarist / Composer for Landia
Born in Santa Monica, California on July 22, 1958 and raised In Los Angeles,
CA I’m the son of an Iowa "farm boy" and a Georgia "peach"!
They met in Los Angeles back in the ’50s and never left. I have a brother
and a sister and I’m the middle child.
School was fun! I attended Sumner Elementary, Claremont, CA; Harvard
School, North Hollywood, CA; the University of Colorado, Boulder, CO and
the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, CA. My degree is a
Bachelor of Science in Finance. I was President of the Colorado Alpha
Chapter of Phi Kappa Psi. At USC, I produced and directed a musical that
was performed at the Greek Theater in 1979. We took first place in the
competition. In 1975 I was chosen to be an exchange student on a program
called AFS. I went to France and stayed with a wonderful family!
My jobs in life have been numerous. At thirteen my cousin and I landed
jobs as dishwashers. It’s been downhill ever since! Seriously, I worked
on Wall Street before taking on the task of becoming a songwriter. While
struggling as a musician I have worked as a handyman, courier, auto detailer,
door to door salesman, operations manager at a small brokerage firm, bicycle
shop employee and electronics repairman.
Of course, I’ve also worked in the musical arena! Aside from the countless
shows I’ve had the opportunity to play, I’ve also worked with some acoustic
guitar amplification companies. Currently, I’m an endorsing player with
the L.R. Baggs Company, makers of the finest in acoustic guitar amplification
in the world; Polysonics, makers of the ultimate in speaker cabinet design
and sound; the Thomastik-Infeld Company, makers of the finest strings
ever made; and the Jarrod Lee Amplification Company, makers of the best
acoustic guitar amp I’ve ever heard.
All of my acoustic guitars are from the finest luthier to ever touch
wood: Lloyd R. Baggs. I use his pick-ups and pre-amps as well. My amp
is the Jarrod Lee Hooker Acoustic Guitar series.
The Landia band has seen many great players through the years and many
thanks go to all those who have contributed to the growth of the project!
I would like to acknowledge one player who really kept it glued together
for years: Rami Yanni. Rami played bass in the band for 14 years and kept
the project afloat during its leanest years. Many thanks, Rami!
The current line up is by far the most unified. Chris, Dennis and Wesley
are the most fun and talented guys I’ve worked with. My ability to play
in a band was shaken in a 1990 car accident. When I physically could play
again I met Dennis, then Wes, then Chris. Since 1996 we have been formulating
a new, unique sound. Music with a soul. Music with heart. Music that moves
you to think positive and inspires you to become the best that you can
be.
We are here, as Landia: Unleashing the truth!
